BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
On Saturday, December 5th, Barrington children are invited to join Santa for breakfast at the VFW Memorial Hall on Shreve Avenue. Festivities start at 9am and finish around 11am. Kids can get their picture taken with Santa, and get a chance to chat with the Jolly Old Elf himself. Admission is free, but you are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy or a non-perishable food item for needy folks in town.
TOYS FOR THE NEEDY
Barrington Fire Company #1 will be conducting their usual drive for new, unwrapped toys and cash donations to benefit the less fortunate during the season of giving. On Saturday, December 12th, from 10am to 2pm, volunteer firefighters and EMT’s will be in front of the Rite-Aid at the corner of Clements Bridge Road and Gloucester Pike to run a Coin Toss and collection site for gifts. You can also drop them off at the Firehouse the during the following week.
There will also be a Giving Tree at Borough Hall again this year. Stop by and pick up a gift tag from the tree that will specify the age and gender of a person in need. When you shop for a gift, wrap it, and attach the tag to it, and return it to Borough Hall by December 18th. The A.B.L.E. Group will see that it gets to a deserving recipient by Christmas morning.
CANDY CANE DAY
On Sunday, December 20th, Santa’s Helpers will get dressed up as Barrington Firefighters and go around the town giving out their traditional candy canes. (Of course, only good children will receive one. Santa’s watching!)
SPONSORS SOUGHT FOR NEEDY FAMILIES
For many years, Mayor Klaus has organized the town’s Care & Share Program benefiting deserving families in Barrington and at the Osbourne Clinic at Lourdes Hospital in Camden. Businesses, organizations, and families volunteer to sponsor an entire family for the holidays. They receive the wish lists of everyone in the family –with first names, genders, and sizes only– and then go shopping. The gifts are returned to the Mayor’s Office by December 18th, and are delivered before Christmas. It’s guaranteed to give you that Holiday spirit!
A.B.L.E. NEEDS FOOD (ABLE = Answers, benevolence, liberation and education)
Barrington A.B.L.E. Group, needs FOOD. We are currently extremely low on food stuffs. Also if you are willing, we desperately need donations of Food Certificates from local groceries (CVS, Wal-Mart, Acme, Shop Rite, etc.) just to name a few. If at all possible denominations of $10 or $20 dollars will go along way with our bags of food we are distributing. This group of volunteers, are residents, who are here to assist their friends and neighbors in need. We help those in need, while on their way back to a normal living situation. We want to thank all of those organizations and individuals who have given of their time and resources to help those less fortunate. It has been a difficult couple of years with our current economic situation.
Next Food Distribution will be on Saturday December 12! Distribution will be here at the Borough Hall. Call for information (856) 547-8585.
