Low Income Household Water Assistance Program
The State Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) can help you pay arrears for your water and sewer bills. The program may also be able to help address tax liens due to water and sewer arrears. To get more information and apply, go to waterassistance.nj.gov or call NJ211.


The services available through the tax office are:

  • Billing and collection of all property taxes
  • Billing and collection of all sewer accounts
  • Maintains all records of billings and collections
  • Accounting for all veteran and senior citizen deductions
  • Records results of tax appeals, tax liens and general assessments
  • Undertakes the Annual Tax Sale

Tax Due Date:

  • Annual billing is sent out in the summer
  • Due dates are February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1
  • Interest will not be charged if payment is received by the 10th of the month. After this grace period, interest will accrue at the rate of 8% on the first $1500 of delinquency and 18% on everything in excess of $1500.

Sewer Due Date:

  • Annual billing is in March
  • Due dates are April 1 and October 1
  • Interest will not be charged if payment is received within 30 days of the due date. After the grace period, interest will accrue based on the same formula as taxes

The Tax Assessor is responsible for establishing the assessed value of each property in the Borough of Barrington. The assessed value of your property is multiplied times the tax rate to determine the annual tax levy which is also your annual tax bill. The assessor’s office also has information to help veterans and senior citizens determine their eligibility for property tax exemptions.
