MAYOR KYLE HANSON

Kyle has been a proud resident of Barrington since 2001, when his family moved to town. He attended Barrington Public Schools before earning his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. Many residents may know Kyle from his years working at the Barrington Coffee House, while others recognize him for his long-standing volunteer service to the community, including his roles as President of the Civic Association and as a member of the Harvest Festival and Drug Alliance Committees.

Kyle began his service on Barrington Council in September 2019, when he was appointed to the governing body, becoming the youngest individual in the borough’s history to do so. In 2023, he was unanimously appointed Council President. He now serves a four-year term as Mayor, having been sworn in on January 7, 2024, as Barrington’s youngest Mayor.

In December 2023, Kyle was recognized by Insider NJ as one of the state’s Top 100 Millennials in Politics. The following year, in 2024, he was again honored by Insider NJ, being named to its Top 100 “Rising Generation” list.

Mike moved to Barrington with his wife, Sharon, and two children, Kaylin & Mason, in 2013. His brother Shane also lives in town next door with his wife Valerie and children Brayden and Brooklyn. There’s nothing he enjoys more than being with his family fishing, crabbing, playing sports and doing just about anything outdoors. Professionally, Mike is a proud member of IBEW Local 351. Being involved in a skilled trade has allowed him to provide many services to our sports organizations as well as other volunteer groups such as Habitat for Humanity.   

In 2016, Mike became a member of Council and joined the Planning and Zoning Board. He became Council President in 2021, 2022, 2024, & 2025. During his 9 years on the Governing Body, he held positions on many different committees, boards, and organizations throughout the Borough. Whether coaching sports or helping a resident with an issue, seeing the smile on someone’s face when helping them out inspires him to stay dedicated to his work. He was re-elected and sworn in for another 3-year term in January of 2026.

COUNCILWOMAN MELANIE MERCADO-MILLER

Melanie Mercado-Miller, a Barrington resident since 2020, has a background in project management and public health. Previously from Philadelphia, she attended Ursinus College where she double majored in Psychology and Spanish. After several years in the non-profit sector, she returned to academia for a Master’s in Public Health and certificate in Emergency Management at Thomas Jefferson University. Currently, she works as an Operations Manager for the Quality Improvement Collaborative at Jefferson Health East Region which collaborates with the Department of Health HIV, STD, and TB Services to end the HIV epidemic in New Jersey. 

As of January 2024, Melanie proudly serves as a Councilperson in Barrington. When not working for her community, Melanie enjoys time spent outdoors with her husband, Stephen Miller Jr., and their two adopted dogs, Bella and Rex.

COUNCILMAN VINCENT CERRITO

Vincent Cerrito and his wife, Tina, quickly knew Barrington was the right place to put down roots and start their family. Drawn to its safe, family-friendly atmosphere and strong sense of community, they are proud to call Barrington home, where they are now raising their two sons.

Vincent’s commitment to public service is deeply rooted. His mother is a teacher at Haddon Heights High School, and his father serves as a business representative for organized labor, instilling in him a lifelong appreciation for education, advocacy, and community involvement. 

Professionally, Vincent works as a project manager responsible for the planning, budgeting, and execution of large-scale commercial electrical projects. His combined experience in management and public service provides a strong foundation for his work as Councilman and Director of Community Development, where he is focused on strengthening Barrington’s quality of life and long-term growth.

COUNCILMAN MICHAEL DRUMM

Mike has been a lifelong resident of Barrington. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and Master’s degree in Public Administration from Rutgers University-Camden. Mike retired from the Barrington Police Department as Deputy Chief in 2015 after serving Barrington for 26 years. Mike had dedicated most of his adult life to the residents of Barrington.  

Prior to joining the Governing Body in 2020, Mike was a member of the Barrington School Board for 10 years; 6 of the 10 as President.  Mike has enjoyed coaching his five kids and other Barrington youth in sports for 30 years. He enjoys speaking with the residents directly to learn out about any issues/concerns they might have and see where the Governing Body can be of any assistance.

COUNCILMAN ALEX BEYER

Alex has been a resident of Barrington since 2020, moving with his wife Brittany to set down new roots and grow together with the community. Since that time, he has been ever-present at council meetings and a regular volunteer around town, especially with the Barrington Green Team, working alongside the other volunteers to lead Barrington to Bronze Certification by Sustainable Jersey in 2024. 

He was appointed by the mayor to the Zoning and Planning Board in 2024, where he continues to serve. He attended Rutgers University – Camden, studying linguistics and then moving into the insurance and marketing sectors in the South Jersey and Philadelphia regions. Proud to serve the community in any way possible, Alex seeks to make the workings of the local government clear and approachable to the entire community since being first elected starting in 2025. He enjoys spending time with his wife and son.

COUNCILWOMAN ALISHA VanBERNUM

Alisha VanBernum has been a proud resident of Barrington since 2015. She and her husband, Joe, chose Barrington as the ideal community to raise their two children, Bailey and Joey. Alisha grew up nearby in Haddon Township and has strong local roots.

Alisha holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Special Education from La Salle University and a Master’s Degree in Special Education, along with certification in Teaching Visually Impaired Students. While working full time and raising her family, she built a career as a Special Education Teacher and Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Philadelphia and also serves as a professor preparing future educators.

Alisha is deeply committed to the Barrington community. She volunteers with the Barrington School District, supports APT/WPTG fundraising efforts, and spends much of her free time at local softball and Little League fields. Outside of volunteering, her family enjoys supporting local businesses, visiting the farmers market, and spending time with neighbors. Alisha is excited to continue serving her community and to represent Barrington as a Councilwoman.
